I AM AN ANIMAL

I am an Animal (2019)

Video installation with projected moving images bounced off water onto an acrylic screen.

With sound and vibrating liquid.

Duration: 2 minutes, 50 seconds.

I am an Animal was a video projection installation that re-imagined the human form as another life-form. As something organic, mysterious and almost unrecognisable, to remind us that when we pull back the human societal veil of sophistication and intellect, at our core, we are animals.

Video of my manipulated body was projected via a container of water onto a circular acrylic board hanging in the space of the gallery by from the ceiling. The water represented the slippery and fluid nature of our hidden beast, the physics of water made the image an evocative green. The booming sound of gurgling liquid triggered a sub-woofer beneath the water, generating ripples and creating watery transitions on the screen.
